Banfi in Montalcino has over thirty years a point of reference for anyone dealing with the world's wine production. Defined at the time as "the largest project ever realized in the production of quality wines", was founded in 1978 by the will of the Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani - who already hold Banfi Vintners, one of the most important import company American wines. The property, situated in the south of the town of Montalcino, occupies 2,830 hectares of which 850 are home to specialized vineyards. The main local varieties are grown (Sangiovese and Moscadello), in addition to a significant presence of other varieties of "international"-included habitat Montalcino (Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot). The head office in Italy is entrusted since 2001, to Henry Viglierchio. Determinants of corporate development also figures Cristina Mariani-May, daughter of John and James Mariani, Harry's son, respectively, in the company since 1993 and 1991. Reliability, professionalism and respect for the consumer are the basis of quality and production of Banfi wines. In 2001 the company obtained ISO 9001-14001 (quality system and environmental system), that regulate and guarantee relationships with customers and the territory where the company operates. In 2006, the first winery in the world, has achieved the SA 8000, the international standard aimed at protecting the fundamental rights of workers, ensuring compliance with the ethical production of goods and services. And 'in this philosophy, based on the continuous search for quality, which is part of the implementation of the new area of ??winemaking "Horizon". The project was entirely conceived and developed within the company, consists of a series of features and high-level solutions, from vineyard to winery, designed to improve every single step of the production process. Centerpiece of the project, and looks very innovative from a technical point of view, are the 24 fermentation tanks composites, which combine together in a synergistic way, the advantages of wood and steel. What is a hospitality area where Banfi has always believed, until it becomes the Castle of Poggio alle Mura a stunning center which offers a complete and articulated. A March 2007 opening of Castello Banfi-Il Borgo, with its 14 luxury rooms including 5 suites, completed the already wide range of products and services offered dall'Hospitality.
