Cupramontana rises from the very heart of the Marche Region, on one of the sun-kissed green hills lining the right-hand bank of the Esino river. This is the ancient and noble homeland of Verdicchio. It is also the site where four generations ago the Bonci family started their production and sale of wines. It all began with Domenico Bonci, in the first few years of the last century. As well as developing his own production through an accurate selection of producers and associated products carried out employing the wisdom of a true connoisseur, his vision also extended to reserving the best batches for the many transalpine visitors who displayed an interest in these fruits of the earth processed by such fine craftsmanship. Cupramontana was probably founded between the 6th and 5th century BC, and received its name from a temple once erected nearby in honour of the goddess Cupra. Following the devastation of the Greek-Gothic war, the settlement was abandoned. The ruins were later used for the construction of a fortification initially, and then a castle. The latter rose not far from the site, on the highest point, and was known as Massaccio. In 1861, King Vittorio Emanuele II granted a return to Massaccio's former name, Cupramontana was probably founded between the 6th and 5th century BC, and received its name from a temple once erected nearby in honour of the goddess Cupra.
