We are in South Tyrol in the community of Caldaro where wine is the protagonist of the history of this area.
Here we find the Kaltern Winery, one of the most famous in the region and the first in Italy to boast the FAIR'N GREEN sustainability certification.
Receiving this recognition means producing based on sustainability in cultivation, business management and social commitment. All this will guarantee the production of wines in full respect of nature and man.
Pioneer of biodynamic agriculture, the Kaltern Winery offers a wide range of products including this Quintessenz Kalterersee Classico Superiore 2018, a bright ruby ??red color made with a slave grape variety.
Macerated on the skins, maoloactic fermentation followed by a maturation on the fine lees for six months in cement and large wooden barrels.
Fruity nose of raspberries, strawberry and a light almond in the finish, persistent and savory flavor with a finish that turns on the fruit.
Can be combined with Tyrolean specialties such as speck, fresh cheeses and white meats.

Today the winery has approxi mately 440 members who together farm vineyards covering over 300 hectares.Kellerei Kaltern - Caldaro is thus one of the most important quality producers in Italy. The vineyards are almost entirely worked by hand, while the members set themselves strict guide lines for quality assurance, supervised by the cellar master. He is available throughout the year to assist and advise the wine growers in their work. The wine village of Kaltern lies 15 kilometres south of Bozen, above Lake Kaltern, the warmest lake in the Alps. The variety of soils and differing microclimates in this region are refl ected in the more than 60 vineyards with historical names such as Vial, Spigel or Salt. Gentle hills rising to a height of approximately 600 metres surround the lake like a horseshoe, so that most slopes face south or southeast and are thus best exposed to the sun. The rapes, aided by the pleasantly warm climate around the lake, ripen completely and thus develop their aroma to its full extent. In the evening, breezes from the summits of the 2,000 metre high Mendel range fl ow down over the slopes to cool the vines after the long, hot summer days and help develop fruit aromas and acidity in the grapes. Wine-growing around Lake Kaltern is structured on an extremely small scale. Most of the more than 1,000 wine growers in this area possess less than one hectare. For these small wine growers it is practically impossible to make wine from their own grapes and then to market it. The creation of producer co-operatives was an economic necessity, simulta neously offering farmers access to the knowledge of experienced cellar masters and the use of the technical infrastructures necessary for the production of high-quality wines. Even back in 1906, the year of its creation, the need to produce wines of excellent quality was central to the philosophy of the winery now known as Kellerei Kaltern - Caldaro.
