History The Coos family has been making wine on the hillslopes at Ramandolo since the early 19th century. In other words, five generations of Coos passion for the fruits of this land. The heart of the Coos estate is the family. Knowledge of the times, the seasons and the actions that lead to excellence has been handed down from one generation to the next. The Coos philosophy is to give meaning to tradition and traditional techniques in the quest for the original, authentic Ramandolo, using new approaches and ancient materials. Today, Dario Coos’ winery has new vine stock and new cellars but the harvest is still carried out by hand in the traditional fashion – there is no other way of working on the steep, terraced slopes. The cellar vinifies only estate-grown fruit – as they say around here, “every grower gets the fruit he or she deserves” – with the skill and wisdom that inspire Ramandolo’s soul and its future. Where Ramandolo di Ramandolo is born For at least 500 years, grapes have been grown at Ramandolo in the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Here, the hills merge with the mountains, rising steeply in terraces to the north. The vines look as if they have been physically torn out of the soil. Cool nights and warm days, marl-rich terrain and a favourable altitude of between 200 and 400 metres above sea level combine with generous rainfall to create a superb vine-growing environment. It is here that the Coos vines are planted: five hectares of Verduzzo Giallo, with a little Picolit, at a density as high as 7,000 vines per hectare to ensure that quality will always be exceptional. Coos wines are truly distinctive: Dario’s Ramandolo di Ramandolo has all the power and generosity of a noble heritage and his Picolit always lives up to its enviable reputation. Wine Cellar For five generations, the Coos family has benne making wine at Ramandolo, in the Colli Orientali del Friuli zone, passing one generation to the next their knowledge of the seasons and of the winemaking equipment and new cellars, and continues to produce unique, unmistakable wines, the fruits of a family philosopy made of tradition, research and innovation. Transforming estate-grown grapes into wine involves antique wisdom, which is Ramandolo's soul, its past, its future.
