Details of wine

2012 was a year characterized by a hot and dry climate that caused some water stress phenomena in the light plains and especially in the young vines.
This was not the case in Gueberschwihr, where the clay-limestone soils
they have significant reservations, which allow them to continue their maturation without problems. This explains the wealth of
this vintage in which there was a very slow fermentation (12 months) which partly explains the low presence of residual sugars, well masked by the structure of this Pinot Gris Calcaire
The color is bright yellow and the nose develops aromas of hay and citrus. On the palate it expresses a roundness balanced by a marked acidity. Perfect with all fish dishes.

The Domaine Zind-Humbrecht has been created in 1959 by the union of the family owned properties of Zénon Humbrecht, winegrower at Gueberschwihr and of Emile Zind, winegrower in Wintzenheim. Before this date each of our families were producing and selling their wines under their own name. Winegrower from father to son since the Thirty Years war in Europe (1620) the Humbrecht family has long winemaking traditions. Today Léonard and Ginette, as well, as Olivier and Margaret Humbrecht are working together at the Domaine. Chanoine Barth, historian of Alsace wines, recalls that the Humbrecht family was already renting vineyards from the Abbaye of Marbach, near Gueberschwihr, in the 18th century. However, we only started to bottle our wines in 1947. Since then, we have only produced grapes from our own vineyards, making the wine and selling it under our own label. Today the Domaine Zind-Humbrecht has 40 hectares of vineyards located in five different villages in the Haut- Rhin.
