Name: Giacomo Borgogno e Figli
Start-up year: 1761
Cultivated hectares: 16
Winemaker name: Giuseppe Caviola
Address: Via Gioberti, 1 - Barolo (CN)
Web Site: www.borgogno.com

The name Borgogno is connected to one of the oldest wineries in Piedmont: in fact, in 1761 with Bartholomew Borgogno. In 1848 he became the supplier of the College for the sons of Army officers of Savoy Racconigi with the first written document on legal paper, still jealously preserved, demonstrating the company's business and is of great importance in recent history. Since then, the high quality of products offered, the name Borgogno became better known and appreciated. The proof is the choice of its Barolo, in 1861, for the official dinner celebrating the unification of Italy, and in 1886 for the banquet in honor of Nicholas II Romanov Czar of Russia, guest of the Savoy, on an official visit to Castle Racconigi. In the early '20s under the direction of Cesare Borgogno Borgogno, wine sales are beginning to expand outside the national borders, but at the end of World War II that there is a real development with the acquisition of some of the most major overseas markets such as Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, and especially the United States of America, and further consolidating its position in Europe. After the complete renovation of the cellars, which occurred between 1954 and 1959, Cesare Borgogno started in 1967 a new transformation program in the company that assumes the current name "James Borgnogno & Sons." On the death of Cesare Borgogno conduct passes to the grandchildren and Ida Franco Boschis (and later the children Cesare and George), until then their capable staff. Today Borgogno James & Sons is a company that evolved through the centuries-old experience, combines tradition and technological innovation in the relationship, such as to ensure the continued achievement of a higher quality in their products. In 2008 Borgogno James and Sons was acquired by the family Farinetti which concluded in 2009 a major restructuring of the main building.
