Description

Details of wine

Poggione is a historic estate that has its roots in 1880 and was one of the first to produce what is called the King of wines, that is Brunello di Montalcino.
Legend has it that the founder of this cellar was a shepherd who, while accompanying the cattle in transhumance, fell in love with these places and bought land to make it a farm.
Today Poggione works using sustainable agriculture techniques in respect of the local winemaking traditions.
Brunello is produced with only Sangiovese grapes harvested strictly by hand, fermentation with indigenous yeasts in steel tanks and aging for 30 months in French oak barrels.
Its characteristics are renowned all over the world, ruby ??red color with a fruity and persistent nose. The taste is very warm with tannins that manage to balance its characteristics. Long and persistent finish.
One of those wines that will impress you when you taste or taste it paired with red meats, game and cheeses.

CELLAR

Name: Il Poggione
Cultivated hectares: 125
Address: S. Angelo in Colle (SI)
Web Site: www.tenutailpoggione.it

The story of Tenuta Il Poggione began at the end of the 19th century. It tells of Lavinio Franceschi, a landowner from Scandicci, on the hills that rise above Florence. Franceschi was so fascinated by the tales told by a shepherd moving his sheep to their summer pasture on the slopes of the Maremma between Montalcino and Sant’Angelo that he went to survey the place, caring nothing for the distance and dangers that commonly beset travellers in those days. At the end of the 1800s, the Franceschi family’s name was put on the local roll of honour, along with that of the Tolomei and the Counts of Ciaia. After more than a century, Lavinio Franceschi’s work is still a fundamental point of reference for his successors, Leopoldo and Livia, who continue to develop the business with that same dedication and unflagging passion, combining the ancient skills of winemaking crafts and tradition with the latest, most progressive techniques.
