The Barolo "Mosconi" of the company Pira E. & Chiara Boschis is perhaps the maximum wine expression of the winery always interested in making wine only from grapes from the great Cru of the Langhe. The vineyards of this austere, elegant, territorial Barolo are located in Monforte d'Alba and are bred according to the principles of organic farming. The expressiveness we get in the glass linked to this wonderful territory is very high. We are on a hill about 400 m above sea level with a soil formed by calcareous clayey marl with some silicon layers. The fermentation is spontaneous through indigenous yeasts, in steel tanks with the hat emerged. The aging phase lasts at least two years in small French oak barrels, which are lightly roasted. Then the wine matures another year in the bottle. This Barolo in the glass is a perfect symphony composed of fruity and floral notes. Its austerity slowly releases even the secondary and tertiary scents always accompanied by a vigorous tannin that allows this wine to become almost "eternal". It is a wine that cannot be missed in the most prestigious wineries.

Name: Pira E. & Figli - Chiara Boschis Start-up year: 1800 Cultivated hectares: 10 Winemaker name: Chiara Boschis, Giorgio Boschi Address: Via Vittorio Veneto, 1 - Barolo (CN) Web Site: www.pira-chiaraboschis.com
The Pira were an ancient family of winemakers, mentioned in the parish registers since the 17th century, who also became winemakers between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
Gigi Pira, legendary exponent of the old production school, created his wines by assembling the grapes from his own plots of Cannubi, San Lorenzo and Via Nuova. He claimed that, just as cows must graze in the best pastures to produce excellent milk, only the best vineyards must be chosen for the wine. But Pira's attachment to tradition did not stop here: he was in fact the last remaining winemaker to to carry out the crushing on foot and the production without the support of any technical means.
Since 1980, continuity has been guaranteed by Chiara Boschis and her parents Franco and Ida, already linked to the Pira family by deep friendship and mutual esteem and representing a historic family of Barolo producers since the 18th century, now in its 9th generation. After graduating, Chiara began to follow her full-time passion for wine and her world, becoming one of the first women to produce Barolo at the end of the 1980s.
Taking care of this "little big house" has brought a breath of fresh air to the cellar and in the style of production. Since 2010, Chiara has been joined by her brother Giorgio, who shares with her a great passion for working in the vineyard and in the cellar, also thanks to his thirty years of experience.
The work on the vines, strictly manual, is carried out with extreme care and respect for the environment, following the dictates of organic farming, for which the company is certified by the 2014 harvest. The production is very limited (about 40,000 bottles per year), coming from grapes produced directly.
